Botox

Botox is a purified protein derived from bacteria strain, Clostridium Botulinum. It's main aesthetic use in in relaxing facial and neck muscles to reduce expression and tired lines around the eyes and the forehead. It also can lift the droopy eyebrows and upper eyelids to give a fresher and more youthful look.

In Korea, facial contouring with botox is a popular treatment. Botox is used to create a feminine oval shape of the face by reducing the size of the muscle at the jawline. It can also be used to reduce the size of bulky calf muscles.

Botox has been in clinical use for over 30 years. It was first used, and continues to be used, in muscle disorders like eyelid spasm, torticollis, or neck stiffness; and stroke victims who have muscle spasms or tightness and even in cases of migraine.

This protein is rapidly taken up by nerve endings where it blocks the release of a certain chemical responsible for stimulating muscles. In short, it is a muscle relaxant.

BOTOX is registered for the treatment of frown lines and crow's feet and approved by the US FDA since the mid 1990's.

Botox is administered through multiple tiny injections and treatment takes about 5 minutes to complete.

The clinical effect of Botox is seen 48 hours after injection. The maximum effect is seen after about 10 days. The effect is not permanent and usually last 5-6 months.

There is no downtime with botox treatments.

Complications with botox is uncommon. Drooping of the upper eyelid is an uncommon recognized complication of botox injection to the frownlines. It recovers uneventfully in 3-6 weeks and an eyedrop is usually prescribed to relieve it.

Finally, I would rate botox treatments as a high satisfaction treatment amongst my patients. The clinical results are obvious and there is no downtime before one looks forward to a fresher and more youthful look.
